SOHN recently sat down to chat with VEVO DSCVR and play a stripped down version of ‘Veto’. You can watch below:
I’m sitting here on a tour bus in Germany right now, about to play another show in front of more of you than I could have imagined, and thought I’d take a moment to thank you all. Today my debut album “Tremors” is available all over the world, connecting with people like yourselves, weaving it’s way through continents and gliding over oceans I never thought it would reach.
I’m a little overwhelmed by the response so far – it’s been available to stream over itunes across the globe for the last week, and now that it’s released it starts to hit charts in countries which I would never in my wildest dreams have imagined were possible. So I want to say thank you. Thank you for supporting my music, thank you for talking about it, showing it to your friends, thank you for coming to shows, and thank you so much for buying the album. That, ultimately is what makes what I’m doing possible – and without your excitement, anticipation and reaction to this album I wouldn’t be writing this mail here today. Thank you so much. I hope to see you at a show in a city near you as soon as possible.
You can buy the album through iTunes here.
You can buy the album through Amazon here.
US viewers can buy the physical album through the 4AD Store here.
UK viewers can pick the record up from all independent record stores, including Rough Trade, Resident, Piccadilly, and Jumbo.
Ahead of the release of SOHN’s debut album Tremors next week, the penultimate 4AD Session video has been premiered today via Dummy.
Filmed on the outskirts of Vienna (SOHN’s adopted hometown), the Londoner’s live performance of ‘Bloodflows’ was captured by his friend and Austrian filmmaker Andreas Waldschuetz. Against a startling blood red backdrop, SOHN is ably backed by his live band members Albin Janoska (synths) and Stefan Fallman (bass).
‘Bloodflows’ features on SOHN’s debut album Tremors, due to be released in the week commencing 7th April. You can pre-order the album from all the usual outlets, including the 4AD Store, iTunes and Amazon.
You can also create your own version of the Tremors artwork and submit for your chance to win gig tickets and records. Download the template, and see the other entries, by heading to sohnmusic.com/tremorsfeed.
You can watch the video via Dummy here.
A week after launching the first of his four 4AD Session videos, SOHN has premiered the second instalment, a live rendition of ‘The Wheel’, via Noisey today.
In contrast to the monochrome ‘Artifice’ (the opening track of SOHN’s 4AD Session), ‘The Wheel’ is rendered in stark colour by the director, Austrian filmmaker Andreas Waldshuetz, who was inspired by the visual styling in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Parts three and four of the 4AD Session will be revealed over the next fortnight in the build-up to the release of Tremors in the week commencing 7th April. Full credits available here.
Don’t forget, you can create your own version of the Tremors artwork and submit for your chance to win gig tickets and records. Download the template, and see the other entries, by heading here.
As the release of his debut album draws nearer, SOHN has taken time out to film a 4AD Session with filmmaker and photographer Andreas Waldschuetz in his adopted Austria. Recorded in the outskirts of Vienna, SOHN – flanked by his live band Albin Janoska (synths) and Stefan Fallmann (bass) – performed four songs from his forthcoming album Tremors. The first of those videos to be posted online today is current single ‘Artifice’ and is premiering via Vogue.
The creative partnership between SOHN and Waldschuetz spans many years, and of late has seen the latter embrace unique techniques to capture SOHN visually, as can be seen in his previous work with the London- born producer – the unplugged live performance of Tremors opener ‘Tempest’ which you can see here.
“I recently rewatched Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey 2001 and was pretty inspired by it” says Austrian filmmaker Andreas Waldschuetz. “Listening to ‘Artifice’ the first thing that popped into my head were neon tubes – I love neon lights. I love its coldness and sterility, and the graphical element that comes with it. All in all a glitchy piece of art.”
To coincide with the release of Tremors, SOHN will play London’s Village Underground on 17th April. Only his third London show, tickets have now sold out. However he will return to the Capital in the summer to play Field Day festival on 7th June, and Latitude in Suffolk on 18th July.
From today, we’re also offering the opportunity to download a transparent template of the Tremors cover, to allow you to create your own album cover. Limited stickers will also be available from independent record stores. Tag your covers online with #SOHNtremors for your chance to win records and gig tickets, and all entries on Instagram and Twitter will be featured on sohnmusic.com.
